The perfect day in the Cotswolds
Ella Williams journeys from Georgian Bath into the storybook charm of the Cotswolds, on a relaxing small-group day tour with Mad Max Tours.

A recent guest on our Cotswolds tour from Bath, on a friend's best advice, a guide called Kevin, and the day they cracked the travel cheat code.
What made you decide to book a tour rather than drive yourselves?
Before our trip, a friend who really knows the UK gave us one piece of advice we are so glad we listened to: "Don't even think about driving in the Cotswolds. The roads are tiny and parking is a nightmare. Find a good tour." Honestly, that was the best tip we got the whole trip.
What were your first impressions once you set off from Bath?
Booking the small-group tour was hands down the best call we made. From the second we pulled out of Bath, it felt way less like a tour and more like a road trip with friends. The minibus was super comfortable, and with just a handful of us, it was really easy to get to know everybody.
Tell us about your guide.
Our guide, Kevin, was the secret sauce, honestly. He was an amazing driver, he handled those crazy narrow lanes like it was nothing, but he was also such a great storyteller. He didn't just rattle off facts and dates, he told us these funny stories and pointed out little details we never would have noticed on our own.
And the villages, did they live up to the hype?
And the villages? Oh man, they totally live up to the hype, and then some. Walking into Castle Combe for the first time is a moment I will not forget: it is just so peaceful and unbelievably gorgeous.

Fitting all that into one day, did it ever feel rushed?
What I really loved was the pace. This was not one of those "look out the window and snap a photo" kind of tours. We had plenty of time in each spot to actually explore. We wandered the shops in Stow-on-the-Wold, grabbed lunch at this great little place, and got to see all the big highlights, like Bibury's famous Arlington Row and the river running through Bourton-on-the-Water, without ever feeling rushed.
How would you sum up the day?
Honestly, the whole day just worked. It felt like we had found some kind of travel cheat code. We saw way more than we ever could have on our own. A 10 out of 10 experience, we would recommend it to anyone.
