Finding the magic between the landmarks

Sarah Hirons journeys between the ancient mysteries of Stonehenge and the timeless charm of the Cotswolds, on a small-group day tour with Mad Max Tours...

Sarah Hirons | 1 minute read

A recent guest, just back from a day among the ancient stones and storybook villages of Wiltshire, on touchable standing stones, Harry Potter corners, and one genuinely perfect day.

Thanks for chatting with us. How would you sum up the day?

This day was a highlight of our time in the UK. We' read about Mad Max but this tour delivered more than we expected.

What did you make of your guide?

Our guide was fantastic right from the start. A brilliant driver (needed on those tiny country roads!) and full of stories and bits of history to make the day fun. He made the whole day feel like a real adventure.

Did anything take you by surprise?

Seeing Stonehenge was incredible, but the real surprise for us was Avebury. The fact that you can walk right up to the stones and touch them is just amazing. No ropes, no huge crowds, just you and these massive, ancient stones in the middle of a village. It was a much more personal experience.

And then you headed into the villages. How were they?

Lacock was like walking into a movie. We had a great time pointing out all the spots from Harry Potter and just soaking in the atmosphere. There was plenty of time to wander on our own and even stop for a drink in a classic old pub, which was a great experience.

Did one of them stand out?

And just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we got to Castle Combe. I have no words for how beautiful that place is. Genuinely breathtaking. Every photo we took looks like a postcard.

Any advice for someone trying to decide whether to book?

We packed so much into one day, but it never felt rushed. There's absolutely no way we could have seen all this on our own. If you're trying to decide which tour to book, this is the one. It was worth every penny.
